One of the tasks of UiL OTS is to offer a programme in linguistics to students who are planning to obtain a PhD degree in one of the institute's areas of research. Responsible for the coordination of that programme is the graduate programme supervisor. In addition to the research component which aims at completion of the doctoral dissertation within 4 years, the programme has an educational component comprising curricular and extra-curricular training activities. Each year five full-time stipends are available for successful applicants. In addition, the institute actively exploits the possibilities for externally funded stipends.

In 1997 UiL OTS started an International PhD Programme. Admissible are up to three graduate students from outside The Netherlands yearly. Applicants should have sufficient background to be able to finish their dissertation within three years. Excellent candidates may be awarded a (partial) grant. A brochure providing detailed information can be obtained from the UiL OTS administration.

The graduate programme is organised both at the level of the institute and at a national level.
