The Utrecht institute of Linguistics OTS is a research institute of the Faculty of Arts of Utrecht University. UiL OTS aims at developing scientific expertise in the systems underlying language, speech and their use. It sets out to achieve this goal by carrying out a research programme comprising fundamental research in these areas, by furthering the application of the insights thus obtained, and by offering a high-quality graduate programme to qualified PhD-students. It was founded in 1987, and extended its scope in 1997.

UiL OTS is part of the university's research priority area Language, Speech and Logic, which is one of the 16 research priority areas Utrecht University has officially recognised. UiL OTS participates in two national research schools: it administers the Landelijke Onderzoekschool Taalwetenschap (abbreviated LOT; the Netherlands Graduate School of Linguistics) and also participates in the Onderzoekschool Logica (abbreviated OzsL; the Dutch Graduate School in Logic).

The UiL OTS research programme comprises fundamental and applied research on language and speech.
