Research at the UiL OTS covers seven main areas:
Research in each of these areas is organised in a corresponding research group. In their current form the research groups coincide with standard linguistic disciplines. Each research group has several research units which we refer to in this document as 'project groups'. The project groups consist of clusters of senior research staff, research assistants, PhD students and visiting scholars. A number of project groups bring together researchers from different disciplinary areas.
A special status has the research programme Language in Use that is funded by the University Board for a five-year period, which started in 1999.
